Long day fishing

Great Blue Heron at the Wiley Slough, Skagit Valley.

One of my favorite places to go and look for wildlife and birds in particular when I am on the mainland, is the Wiley Slough in the Skagit Valley. This slough is part of the Skagit River delta and is home to so many critters. You can wander along the dike trails and get to see raptors, ducks, geese, heron, owls, woodpeckers and so much more. It is a easy walk and never disappoints. After clouds for most of the days, the sun broke out late in the day and cast a yellow glow across the slough catching this heron in a spotlight of warmth. A simple click. a thanks to the heron and I was on my way. I am sure that the heron was also off to catch some dinner.
