From Shot to Print

A four-day workshop covering everything from capture to fine art print
October 25-28

Four days working in the field and the studio in the Pacific Northwest

Overview:

We don’t just live in the Pacific Northwest, we love the Pacific Northwest.  To celebrate the area and my favorite time of year, we are hosting a small workshop for 6 people to come up to the studio and spend time shooting in October. We will visit some of my favorite locations in and around Whidbey Island, the Olympic National Park and the Skagit Valley. The entire area is an amazing place, and we will find the best places to visit. But this workshop is just about shooting, we will also spend time in the digital darkroom looking at how to edit our files to get the best images possible.  The price which is $1000 ($900 for early bird pricing) covers transport once on location, guiding, instruction and all the printing supplies.

Outline:

We will spend time shooting every day either at sunrise, sunset or both. The first day we will meet up at the studio around 9:00 am and spend some time talking about the next four days and diving a little into the digital darkroom. We will then head out for some sunset shooting on Whidbey Island. The next day, we will get up and photograph sunrise and then head on the ferry to shoot over on the Olympic peninsula and landscapes before returning to have dinner in Port Townsend.

The next two days will be spent shooting at other locations, editing and printing our work. Topics may include: selecting substrates, workflow and editing techniques with Camera RAW/Lightroom, Photoshop, and working with 3rd-party tools.

Skill level
Our workshops have a range of skill levels from people just getting started to advanced amateurs and other professional photographers.  Our number one goal is to stay safe and having fun. Some of the locations do require some light hiking with a pack, but the average person shouldn’t have any trouble accessing the locations.

Itinerary information
The shoot locations and timetables are not completely set until shortly before our workshop. Weather in the Pacific Northwest can be unpredictable so we assess the locations as the workshop dates get closers.  You will receive a detailed itinerary prior to your arrival.

Workshop updates
We try to keep you updated about all aspects of the workshop. About three weeks before the workshop, you will receive information regarding what to bring, clothing, equipment and weather information. We tend to over inform you so that you are totally prepared. If we see any changes to the workshop, you will be contacted as soon as possible with the necessary information.

Studio Notes
We will be printing on Epson printers, and all printing and ink supplies are included in the cost of the workshop.

Each workshop is limited to 6 participants. The limited enrollment ensures that everyone attending can get the attention they need to be successful and allow for some flexibility in the content being presented.

A more details schedule will be available closer to the the workshop.
