Daniel, Thank you for sharing your wisdom. My lack of organisation in lightroom has been holding me back from being able to output anything recently. Although I’ve already been using collections, your filing system is going to help me greatly and the beast that is whittling hundreds of photos down will be tamed by the multiple pass ‘tactic’. Thanks for the kind words. I know that you always made his day when he was up there. It was a comfort for Lori and I to know that you took such great care of him. You would have liked Grady when he was feeling well, he had a huge heart and a his whole butt would wiggle when he was happy. Thanks again for everything you did for him and for us. It will never be forgotten.

VSC shared this link with us. What a beautiful tribute to Grady. I have been thinking of him a lot this week and miss him coming into to see us. I wish I could have known Grady in happier times but you never would have known he wasn’t feeling well. He was always sweet and funny and a joy to work with. He really did have his eyes, heart and mind on what truly matters. I feel like it was in part within his nature, but also from the great influence of his best friends and love-filled home.

Grady has claimed a spot in my heart as having one of the best personalities I have ever met, and I’ll never forget what he taught us all.

I will never forget how Grady leaped up with joy when you got home from work last week, and brought you that hedgehog, eventhough he barely had the energy to stand and hadn’t picked up a toy in weeks. Was literally joy that lifted him up and moved him. Damn sure wasn’t his weak legs.

I sure hope we figure out how to love the way our goofy yoda of a dog did. So freely and completely. Perhaps the mantra “What Would Grady Do?”

Thanks very much for your post! It helped me learn about a “humane” way of creating a collection structure for each shoot. I’m just learning Lightroom (moved from using Aperture for a couple of years) and I was very surprised that there isn’t an easier, “preset” way of creating a standard collection structure. I’m not a pro or a high volume photographer, but even so, I feel humans shouldn’t have to go through the tedium of repeating tasks that computers could (seemingly) easily accomplish. Your “workaround” gives me a way to reduce the tedium of creating a standard collection structure each time I import photos from an event or trip.

Thanks for stopping by. It was a interesting weekend. I wasn’t sure what to expect nor the directions the conversations would lead. In many ways that might be its greatest strength, the directions are only starting points and the varied wind in the sails makes the ride just a little unexpected.

I’m just getting back in the stride of things following ART, Daniel. When I read your post, the line “You have to be true to your art. And integrity like this is really fucking hard” stuck with me. You hit the nail on the head with that sentiment and it all comes down to what we choose for our journey. I have a feeling that you will be one of those who won’t back down from that challenge and that the world will be the better for it.
