about.daniel

I have always loved taking photos. It has been the one way that I am able to find visual expression of thoughts, feelings and sensations. I have never been that good at traditional art. In school, I think I was the only person who failed stick figures 101. The camera removes those voices from my head that tell me I am not an artist. The camera slows me down and makes me experience my world in ways that normally might just pass over me.

I am a fan of all image capture. I shoot and print in all sorts of formats. But if you pinned me down and I could only have one camera as a desert island camera, it would be one of my large format cameras. These days I would say it is my 8x10 over my 4x5 camera. The large format cameras allow for a form of creative expression that different that 35mm, medium format and digital. I know that I am more aware of my work and my images when I am shooting with my desert island Deardorff.

Most of my work is landscape, street and macro work. While I enjoy shooting pretty much everything, at the end of the day I find myself grounded in my landscapes. I find myself lost in those spaces, and I am able to dream and be something bigger than I am behind a desk.
